Chickens & Poultry
If you’ve made the decision to introduce more self sufficiency into your household and family, chickens are a great step to take. Requiring little more than a warm and safe place to roost at night, somewhere to scratch for bugs during the day and a healthy ration of food, they will reward this care and attention with a basketful of eggs for your table.
You’ll also find them willing and helpful companions for the house and garden; they will happily eat pasta, rice and vegetable scraps from the kitchen, and will assist you by eating bugs and larvae in the yard, helping to keep your plants and vegetables pest-free. How about the patch of ground you’ve been planning to turn over and till? Pen your chickens on it for a couple weeks and they’ll do most of the work for you, eating grass and scratching up the ground, fertilizing it as they go.
Welcome them into your yard and they’ll be sure to play their part in the seasonal cycles of mother nature, helping you along your journey to self-sufficiency.
